The Toughest Police Academies in the US HOW DOES THE ACADEMY SYSTEM WORK? Before entering the academy, a police officerʼs educational journey starts with a high school diploma or GED. MARYLAND STATE POLICE ACADEMY. NEW JERSEY STATE POLICE ACADEMY. VIRGINIA STATE POLICE TRAINING DIVISION.

Training is free and Officers are paid their full starting salary beginning the first day of training. Much of the training occurs in the classroom. Officers learn law, human relations, Spanish and report writing. Officers are also trained in tactics, firearms and driving.

Minimum Qualifications Must be a United States citizen. Must possess a valid driverʼs license. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must possess an Idaho Basic Patrol POST Certificate or out of state equivalent. Must have previous law enforcement training and experience.

Minimum Requirements to be a Police Officer in Idaho Must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age. No past criminal history and no convictions of DUI or suspended drivers license within the two years prior to application. No misdemeanor convictions in the past two years.

The police recruit is assigned to sixteen weeks of extensive training and evaluation by Field Training Officers. The recruits are critiqued daily on their performance in thirty-one divergent fields. The recruit receives hands-on, practical training as well as personal experiences from their training officer.

This 15-week program follows the curriculum of Idaho POST, in Meridian. All of our instructors are police officers or retired police officers. The curriculum will cover everything from Drill and Ceremony, Domestic Violence, DUI/SFST, Crime prevention, Health and Fitness to EVOC, Defensive Tactics, Firearms, etc.
