The IIA Code of Ethics has two sections: the principles and their corresponding rules of conduct. There are four principles (integrity, objectivity, confidentiality, and competency) and two to four rules of conduct related to each principle that auditors are responsible for upholding.

An audit report structure should include a title page, table of contents, and executive summary. The introduction should explain the audit objectives, description of the scope, and methodology used to conduct the audit.

The auditor promotes this by adopting and applying the ethical requirements of the concepts embodied in the key principles - Integrity, Independence and Objectivity, Confidentiality and Competence. The conduct of auditors should be beyond reproach at all times and in all circumstances.
