Using File Commands Before you experiment with files, make sure that you are in your home directory. To make certain that you are in your home directory, type the cd (change directory) command. Use the touch command to create an empty file. Now list the file with the ls command to verify that youve created it:

rm command is used to remove objects such as files, directories, symbolic links and so on from the file system like UNIX. To be more precise, rm removes references to objects from the filesystem, where those objects might have had multiple references (for example, a file with two different names).

Use the rm command to delete a file from an Oracle Memory Speed (OMS) mount point. The file path must be an absolute path to an OMS file. rm is enabled only when the Oracle instance is down. If you delete critical files, then it may cause the instance start-up to fail.

Delete the directory and its contents: To delete the directory and all its contents, use the rm command with the -r option, which stands for recursive. Type rm -r mydirectory and press Enter. You will be prompted to confirm the deletion. Type y and press Enter to confirm.

On AIX, Linux, and Solaris operating systems, the ulimit command controls the limits on system resource, such as process data size, process virtual storage, and process file size. Specifically: On Solaris operating systems, by default, the root user has unlimited access to these resources (for example, unlimited).
