David Nicolas Williams Belle (born 29 April 1973) is a French actor, film choreographer and stunt coordinator. He is deemed the founder and leading pioneer of the physical discipline parkour, coining it based on his training and the teachings from his father Raymond Belle.

David Belle is considered the founder of parkour. Raymonds son, David Belle, was born in 1973. He experimented with gymnastics and athletics but became increasingly disaffected with both school and the sports clubs.

The term Parkour has been invented by David Belle and Hubert Kound in 1998 and the word Free Running has been created much later by Sebastien Foucan for the purpose of spreading Parkour in a marketing fashion (they thought the word parkour wasnt international enough and Sebastien Foucan proposed them this word).

Parkour was created in Lisses, a medium prosperous suburb of Paris, in the early nineteen-nineties, by a reserved and restless teen-age boy named David Belle. His father, Raymond, who died in 1999, was an acrobat and a hero fireman.

David Belle originally developed the Parkour concept ing to precepts about the art of movement laid down by his father, who was a Parisian firefighter. As teenagers, Belle and his friends from the Yamakasi group practised jumping and climbing over stairs, barriers, walls and other fixtures in his city.
