Retina-ready websites are websites that utilise modern technology to display high-resolution images on devices that have high definition (HD) displays, such as the many tablets and smartphones, and some modern laptops, macbooks and desktop PCs.

Unlike traditional images, retina images are optimized to appear vivid and clear on devices with high pixel density, such as on newer smartphones, tablets, and high-definition monitors. Retina logos are nothing but logos that are based on the concept of retina images.

To make your website retina-ready, use Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) whenever possible. SVG is an XML-based graphic format that presents images in high quality. SVG images can be viewed in Internet browsers that use XML or be displayed on mobile phones in SVGB or SVGT file formats.

This technology aims to make the displays pixels indistinguishable from one another to the human eye at a typical viewing distance, resulting in sharper and more vibrant images.

Retinal imaging is a diagnostic test that creates high-quality digital images of the inner, back surface of your eye. It allows the diagnosis of many eye conditions like diabetes-related retinopathy, glaucoma and macular degeneration. Your provider will tell you how often you need retinal imaging.

The higher the DPI, the more detailed and clear images and text on that screen appear. Apple refers to their high-DPI displays as Retina displays since, in theory, the DPI is so high that the human eye can no longer distinguish between individual pixels on the screen.

The First Retina Display The iPhone 4 had twice as many pixels (widthwise), so we call it a 2x display. Apple calls them Retina displays because the human eye cant see anything higher resolution than these displays. The old concept of more pixels equals a bigger screen no longer applied!

To create a bitmap Retina image you need to take a larger image, with double the amount of pixels that your image will be displayed at (200 x 200 pixels), and set the image to fill half of that space (100 x 100 pixels).
