A canonical URL is the URL that website owners choose to have indexed by search engines. For example, search engines interpret “www.example.com” as the same URL as “example.com.” To signify which page you want to be indexed by Google and Bing, it’s recommended you set a canonical URL tag for the page. Doing this helps to identify the original page and reduce duplicate content.
