The first big trend (more like a giant trend) is mobile optimization because it will expand, improve, and maybe even blow up!
In 2015, businesses allocated almost half of their digital advertising budgets to mobile. For marketers that get on board with mobile optimization, the payoff could be huge. Goldman Sachs, for example, projected mobile sales to surpass $298 billion at the end of 2015.
Simply having a Facebook or Twitter account or “being on social” is not enough anymore. To compete in 2016 and beyond, marketers must become all things, to all people, at all times. This means as marketers we have to:
It also means businesses must spend significantly more money. To that point, marketers are predicted to spend more than $8.3 billion heading into 2016. So, if you haven’t done it already, make sure a chunk of your marketing budget is allocated for social advertising and spread it across multiple platforms.
Amanda Maksymiw tells the Content Marketing Institute, “Traditional advertising shouts at prospect customers whereas content marketing talks to them.” Her assessment is spot on, especially in light of the fact that traditional advertising generally and purposefully seeks to interrupt a person’s daily routine.
Thank goodness for content marketing. It is specifically targeted, helpful and educational to prospects who are seeking information, rather than intrusive.
