Everybody knows that marketers are savvy, ahead-of-the-curve people who stay there by keeping up with what’s happening.

There was more than just that pay-per-click marketing trends going on last year. Many other sweeping ideas that shook up the digital marketing scene and helped lower the cost of your online customer acquisition. Of course, you already know this; so let’s reminisce together.

Looking back at 2015

2015 will be remembered for all kinds of events, among them, it was the year that a raccoon rode an alligator:

2. Social media diversification

Simply having a Facebook or Twitter account or “being on social” is not enough anymore. To compete in 2016 and beyond, marketers must become all things, to all people, at all times. This means as marketers we have to:

It also means businesses must spend significantly more money. To that point, marketers are predicted to spend more than $8.3 billion heading into 2016. So, if you haven’t done it already, make sure a chunk of your marketing budget is allocated for social advertising and spread it across multiple platforms.

3. Content marketing dominance

Amanda Maksymiw tells the Content Marketing Institute, “Traditional advertising shouts at prospect customers whereas content marketing talks to them.” Her assessment is spot on, especially in light of the fact that traditional advertising generally and purposefully seeks to interrupt a person’s daily routine.

Thank goodness for content marketing. It is specifically targeted, helpful and educational to prospects who are seeking information, rather than intrusive.

Going one step further, you can see how content marketing has gained more traction with marketers around the world in the past five years:

What this all means for 2016

What these three trends point to is this: You need a dedicated landing page for your ads. Or, as we like to say, “every promotion deserves a page.” And, while you’re at it, each landing page should include message matching to help win the conversion.
